OUR HISTORY

The Philadelphia Committee formed in 1948 as a group to support the Heritage House and its versitile and dynamic founder and director, the Dr. Eugene Wayman Jones. In 1975, The Philadelphia Committee, Inc. purchased a building at 5148 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, Pa, which was known as the Eugene Wayman Jones Cultural Center. Various cultural, civic and social activities for youth and adults were offered. The Center was an asset to the community until the building was soold in January of 2003. The Philadelphia Committee Inc., now known as Philadelphia Cultural Committee, Inc, continues to support children financially, emotionally, materially and professionally to reach for the stars as a means of perpetuating the dreams of the late Dr. Jones. The Committee has the distiction of being one of the oldest sponsors of the Ebony Fashion Fair Show held every year the 2nd Saturday in October. Proceeds from our fund raisers are used to help with scholarships and deserving high school graduates from the Tri-State area (Pennsylvania, New Jersey & Delaware) who are seeking high eduation and careers in the cultural arts.
